What Is a Wheel of Names?
A wheel of names (also called a random name picker or spinner wheel) is a simple way to make a fair, random choice out loud. Type in your entries — student names, prize options, team members, dinner ideas — press SPIN, and watch the wheel slow down until the pointer lands on one lucky entry. Because every spin is unpredictable, nobody can argue with the result.
NameWheel.top lets you customize everything: give entries different colors and weights (weighted entries take a bigger slice of the wheel and are more likely to win), control the spin time, turn sound and confetti on or off, and remove winners automatically so everyone gets a turn. Your wheel is saved in your browser and can be shared as a link — perfect for sending a pre-filled wheel to a class or a livestream audience.
How to Use the Spinner Wheel
- Add entries — type a name or option and press Enter, or paste a whole list with Bulk edit (one entry per line, add “×3” for weight).
- Customize — click a color dot to recolor an entry, change its weight, or hide it temporarily with the eye icon.
- Spin the wheel — press SPIN, click the wheel, or hit the space bar. The pointer at the top picks the winner.
- Celebrate the winner — confetti and a fanfare announce the result; choose to remove the winner or spin again.
- Share your wheel — click Share wheel to copy a link that reloads the exact same entries, colors and settings anywhere.
Why Choose NameWheel.top
Truly random & fair
Every spin starts from a fresh random seed and a realistic physics slowdown, so outcomes are unbiased and impossible to predict.
Weights & colors
Give some entries a bigger slice of the wheel — great for weighted raffles — and recolor any entry to match your theme.
Shareable wheels
The whole wheel configuration travels inside a URL link. Send it to students, teammates or viewers and they get the identical wheel.
Winner history & removal
Past winners are listed automatically, and remove-winner mode guarantees nobody is picked twice until you reset.
Sound & confetti
A ticking soundtrack builds suspense while the wheel slows, then a fanfare and confetti celebrate the winner. Toggle both freely.
Ready-made templates
Yes or No, coin flip, dice, class names, prizes, lunch ideas and more — load a full wheel in one click.
Private by design
Names never leave your device: the wheel runs 100% in your browser with local storage, no accounts and no uploads.
Made for big screens
Fullscreen mode turns any projector, smartboard or livestream into a game show — spin with a click or the space bar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this wheel of names really free?
Yes. You can create unlimited wheels, spin as many times as you like and share them freely — no account, no watermark, no hidden limits.
Is the result truly random?
Yes. Each spin uses your browser's cryptographically strong random number generator to pick a total travel distance, then animates a realistic deceleration to that angle. Neither you nor we can influence where the pointer stops. When entries have different weights, bigger slices simply have a proportionally higher chance.
Are the names I enter uploaded anywhere?
No. Your entries, settings and history are stored only in your browser's local storage on your own device. We never see or store your lists. If you share a wheel link, the entries travel inside the link itself, not through our server.
How do I share my wheel with others?
Click the Share wheel button under the wheel. A link containing all your entries, colors, weights and settings is copied to your clipboard — anyone who opens it gets an identical wheel, ready to spin.
How do weights work?
Each entry has a weight between 1 and 100. The size of its slice is proportional to its weight, so an entry with weight 5 is five times as likely to win as one with weight 1. Change the number next to any entry, or write “Prize ×5” in bulk edit mode.
Can I make sure each name is only picked once?
Yes — turn on “Remove winner” in Settings. After each spin the winner is taken off the wheel automatically, which is ideal for classrooms, giveaways and team stand-ups. You can also remove a winner manually from the winner dialog, or hide any entry with the eye icon.
Can I use it on a projector or in a livestream?
Absolutely. Click Fullscreen to fill the whole screen with the wheel, then spin with a mouse click or the space bar. It works great on smartboards, projectors and shared screens in video calls.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The wheel is fully responsive and touch-friendly: tap the wheel or the SPIN button to play. Your wheel is saved on the device you used, so it is ready the next time you open the site.
